Apple hat heute überraschend ein weiteres Feature von iOS 12 via Pressemitteilung vorgestellt. Im Falle eines Notrufs übermittelt das iPhone künftig direkt den Standort an die Hilfskräfte. Bisher hat Apple die Funktion leider nur für die USA angekündigt.
Laut Apple sollen inzwischen 80 Prozent aller Notrufe von Smartphones kommen. Sofern in den USA jemand ab Herbst die Notrufnummer 911 wählt, übermittelt Apple automatisch die Standortdaten des Geräts. Dazu nutzt das Gerät das RapidSOS Internet Protokoll.
“Communities rely on 911 centers in an emergency, and we believe they should have the best available technology at their disposal,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “When every moment counts, these tools will help first responders reach our customers when they most need assistance.”
Apple möchte so die Geschwindigkeit und Zuverlässigkeit im Hinblick auf Hilfeleistung verbessern. Auch der Präsident der National Emergency Number Association gibt sich erfreut:
“We’re thrilled that Apple is giving 911 centers access to device-based location data via a thoroughly-tested, standards-based approach,” said Rob McMullen, President of the National Emergency Number Association, the 911 Association. “This will accelerate the deployment of Next Generation 911 for everyone, saving lives and protecting property.”
Standort bei Notruf nur in den USA
Offenbar wird dieser Service nur in den USA angeboten. Die Pressemeldung liegt nur in englischer Sprache vor, es wird explizit von der Notrufnummer 911 gesprochen. Ob Apple dieses Feature auch in anderen Ländern anbietet, oder die lokalen Notrufbehörden diese Technik überhaupt nutzen können, ist indes nicht bekannt.
