PiXel Check V1.2
by Michael Simmons (Mayhem!)
=====
PiXel Check is an application that assists you in visually inspecting your LCD flat-panel display for bad or "dead" piXels.
The concept is simple - select a test color, and PiXel Check will put up a screen to allow you to check the specific piXels.
"Red" activates all red piXels, "Blue" activates all blue piXels, and "Green" activates all of the green piXels. The "Black" and "White" tests activate or deactivate all red, green, and blue piXels respectively.
The reason that red, green, and blue are the colors that are checked for is because each piXel on an LCD flat-panel display is actually made up of 3 separate transistors - red, green, and blue. When all of the transistors are turned on, you see black, and when all of them are turned off, you see white - the reason why there are also black and white check modes.
If you should find any bad or "dead" piXels, you can try to very carefully "massage" the area of
the screen where you see the bad piXel(s). Be very careful not to scratch or damage your
screen!
Requirements • Mac OS X V10.1 or higher • An LCD-based display, although you could check a CRT's pixels if you really wanted to!
Languages • English • Français (French) • Deutsch (German)
• Italiano (Italian)
• ??? (Japanese) • Español (Spanish)
Instructions
Simply press the button for the desired color test that you would like to perform. Visually inspect the entire LCD panel for bad or "dead" piXels. It's pretty straightforward.
Quick Tips • The voice for the speech is reflective of the selected voice from System Preferences. Additionally, it can be turned off via PiXel Check's Preferences.
• When using "Automatic" mode, any keypress or mouse-click will step you through all of the tests.
• Sending me donations or nice E-mails will make me a happier person.

Version 1.2 (February 3, 2003) :
• This version of PiXel Check is dedicated to the seven brave men and women of the Space Shuttle Columbia who lost their lives on February 1, 2003. • Multiple monitor support! There are no options to select, it just magically detects your extra display(s). • Help (English) is now available from within the application. • Added Italian localization, thanks to Max Rotunno.
• Cleaned up more code and corrected a description faux pas relating to Black and White test modes.
Version 1.1 (December 27, 2001) : • Rebuilt with Project Builder/Interface Builder 1.1 - Mac OS X 10.1 or higher is now required. • Added multiple localizations, thanks to the people listed below. • Added speech; hear the name of the color that you're checking, spoken in the respective language! • Added Preferences; turn speech on or off, and show or hide the pointer while checking piXels. • Cleaned up some code, and fixed a tiny glitch.
Version 1.0(v2) (August 9, 2001) : • Initial release. (v2 quickly fixed a problem with some systems where there was trouble displaying the PiXel Check logo)
