Hello,

First of all, sorry that I am writing in English in a German forum (My German is really bad).

I have a Macbook Pro (Late 2008, unibody model) purchased in Feb 2009. Recently when I compared my notebook with another one (same model), I realised that the trackpad on my notebook is really dark. Initially I thought it could be dirt (even though I haven't used in much in 2.5 months). After trying to clean it up, it still remained the same. I took it to the nearest Apple Service Centre. The agent there acknowledged that it seems to be a manufacturing problem, but after contacting apple said that since it doesn't affect functionality it cannot be covered under warranty (else I should have replaced it in the first 14 days after purchase). I called up Apple Support and they said the same again. I am a bit upset that after paying so much for a notebook, I have to bear with a quality problem at apple.

The trackpad looks similiar to the one in this thread http://www.apfeltalk.de/forum/touchpad-t190484.html. But unlike this one, the color is the same (dark) through out the trackpad.

Do you think I could convince apple somehow? Would it help if I directly go to Apple store at München?

Thanks and regards,
Nims

Call Apple and ask for a Apple Customer Relations guy/ask if your case could be forwarded to Apple Customer Relations. Maybe they'll do something, but I think they won't because this doesn't affect the funcionality at all.

Thanks iYassin. I guess Apple did this already. They connected me to someone else (maybe the Customer Relationship guy) and and he also said the same. He said I could try with the reseller where I bought it. I bought it at notebooksbilliger.de. Do you think they would do something here?

First of all, welcome to AT :)

I don't think that going directly to the Apple Store would help, Apple has told you its opinion already and I don't think they will change it.
What you could do, though, would be replacing or having the entire upper case (yes, the hole unibody) replaced for a approx. 300€ plus the work doing it. I wouldn't recommend that though.

I would actually live with it or sell it on ebay for a good price and get a new one with the money of the old one...

EDIT: When did you get the MBP? If it's less than two weeks ago, then you can return it to notebooksbilliger.de without any reason and you get your money back, of course. Maybe that's a good idea: Get an external hard drive for a few bucks and transfer all your data to it. Then wipe the internal HD securely and return the MacBook to notebooksbilliger.de. When you get your money back, simply get a new one ;)

You could ask at notebooksbilliger.de for a "Kulanz" replacement (sorry, I don't know what it is in Englisch, I found "goodwill"?). But, as you already wrote, they only have to take it back within 14 days after purchase.

Then I guess I better live with it. Probably it is just a "mine is not good as my neigbour's syndrome" I am facing :) It might go off in a few days hopefully. Thanks for your help.

Yep, that's the right attitude! You'll always find anything that isn't the same way as on Apple's product renderings. I also have some problems with my MBP that annoy me - especially the fact that my unibody is a bit contorted.
