MacTeX 2009 ist übrigens seit ein paar Tagen veröffentlicht (zumindest seit gestern scheint die 2009er auch auf den Mirrors gut verteilt zu sein).

Neuerungen (unter anderem):
MacTeX-2009
MacTeX-2009 installs updated versions of the GUI applications that were already in MacTeX-2008. In addition, MacTeX-2009 installs another front end named TeXworks; see TeXworks for details.
MacTeX has optional packages to install two font collections (Latin Modern and TeX Gyre) in /Library/Fonts; these TeX fonts are already in TeX Live, but installing them in /Library/Fonts makes them available to standard Macintosh applications like Adobe Illustrator. By default, these fonts are not installed.
MacTeX installs the latest version of Ghostscript, 8.70, and an unpdated "Convert" from ImageMagick 6.5.2. These packages are self-contained; MacTeX installs no libraries in /usr/local/lib.
TeX Live 2009
MacTeX-2009 installs a completely unmodified copy of the full TeX Live 2009 distribution. This is exactly the same distribution that runs on OS X, Windows, GNU/Linux, various BSD Unix systems, and other systems.
TeX Live 2009 is a major update of TeX Live 2008. Here are some of the new features:
The amsfonts 3.0 update is included. This includes new versions of the Computer Modern (and CM extra), Euler, AMS math symbols, and Washington Cyrillic fonts, with hinting and shapes improved, following Don Knuth and Hermann Zapf. They are metric-compatible with the previous release.
The commands luatex and lualatex now output PDF by default, while the new commands dviluatex and dvilualatex output DVI.
The omega and lambda programs have been removed; used aleph and lamed instead. The collections and other utilities are still named for Omega, though. Since Aleph is a different program than Omega, we did not feel it would be right to make links, even though it is almost entirely compatible.)
The dvipdfm program is now a link to dvipdfmx, running compatibly.
The Asymptote graphics program is included.
