ibook g4 externer Monitor hohe Auflösung

zuerst einmal:
ich weiß dass es zu diesem thema ungefähr eine million threads gibt und ich habe auch ungefähr die hälfte davon schon gelesen also bin ich auch der suchfunktion und google mächtig

aber nirgends finde ich eine lösung für mein problem.
undzwar möchte ich (ich weiß dass nicht von apple vorgesehen) mein ibook geschlossen halten und einen externen monitor anschließen. so weit so gut klappt auch nur möchte ich nun auch dass die auflösung des externen monitors auf 1280x1024 gestellt ist.
würde theoretisch mit screenspanning doctor klappen nur da es eine spiegelung ist schrumpft er die auflösung runter.
ich suche also verzweifelt ein tool dass nicht die funktion freischaltet, dass ich den schreibtisch vergrößen kann, sondern eins, dass bei zugeklapptem book und eingestecktem externem monitor den externen monitor als haupt schirm verwendet und den internen aus schaltet.
achso und der clamshell mode hilft mir irgendwie auch nich weiter.
bitte kann mir jemand helfen oder meine suche wenigstens an dieser stelle beenden und mir sagen dass es nicht geht?

also. screen spanning doctor geht...mach einfa die auflösung am externen monitor hoch, so wie du sie haben willst. dann musst du unter systemeinstellungen->monitore->anordnung den weißen balken auf den anderen monitor ziehen. dann wird der externe monitor als hauptmonitor mit menuleiste und dock angezeigt. dann klappste das book zu und weckst es mit ner externen tastatur oder der maus. funzt prima

aha das ja mal sehr interessant, denn wenn ich das mache macht der zwar das book display aus und nur den externen an aber der externe hat keine der beiden leisten aber die schreibtischsymbole. hab ich da vll schon so viel dran rumgespielt dass ich da was verdaddelt hab? wollte mein book so wie so mal neu installieren vll trittt dann eine änderung ein. oder hast du noch einen tip woran es liegen kann?

verschieb mal die geöffneten Fenster bei den Systemeinstellungen/externer Monitior. Da versteckt sich manchmal das Fenster, um die Funktionen des externen Monitors einzustellen.

ne also das tut es nicht ich kann ja schon die auflöung ändern und den hauptmonitor wählen aber die beiden leisten werden dann nicht angezeigt. kann mann die einstellungen dafür igenwie resetten?

Vielen dank ersteinmal an alle die mir hier versucht haben zu helfen.
Ich habe nun selbst eine Lösung gefunden, die auch für andere interessant sein dürfte.
Hier ist die Anleitung zum Aktivieren des Clamshell Modes, da der Screen Spanning Doctor ab und an zu Problemen führt, wennn es darum geht einen Externen Monitor als Hauptmonitor zuverwenden und das iBook dabei geschlossen gehalten werden soll:

Note: In all the following steps I have the iBook connected to AC power.

Part 0 - Initial state:
(a) Put your iBook in the state where the internal and external displays are on.
(b) Ensure mirroring is disabled.
(c) Make the external display the main display. (You can do this in 'System Preferences - Displays - Arrangement' and drag the menu bar to the external display)
(d) Set the desired resolution and colour of the external display so that this option will appear in the display menu bar.

Part 1:
(a) Put the iBook to sleep and wake it up with both internal and external display on (for good measure).
(b) Open 'System Preferences - Displays'.
(c) Check the option to 'Show displays in menu bar' (Display tab).
(d) Make the internal display the main display by relocating the menu bar to the internal display (Arrangement tab).
(d) Put the iBook to sleep and close the lid.
(e) Wakeup the iBook with the lid closed (internal display off) with a USB or bluetooth device.

Now you will notice that the internal display is off (you can open the lid to check) and the external display is on and it has the menu bar on it. You might need to adjust the resolution of the external display via the menu bar display icon (which you should have enabled in 1(c)). Trying to do this via 'System Preferences - Displays' will crash System Preferences. You will also notice that there is an invisible display that extends your external display (on the top right edge of the screen). In this mode the 32MB VRAM is dedicated to both this invisible and external displays (ie. 16MB each).

Part 2:
(a) Unplug the VGA adapter that plugs into the iBook (ie. Unplug the part which physically connects to the iBook). Alternatively, you can put the iBook to sleep, remove the VGA cable and wake up the iBook with the lid open. This step is important as you need the iBook to be operating with the internal display only.
(b) Put the iBook to sleep and close the lid.
(c) Plug the VGA adapter back into the iBook.
(d) Wakeup the iBook with the lid closed (internal display off) with a USB or bluetooth device.

Now hopefully you are now running the external display in true clamshell mode with the full 32MB VRAM dedicated to this external display. You should notice that your mouse is fully bounded by the edges of the external display. The display menu bar will indicate that there is a Television connected, but you won't have the 'invisible' display extension like at the end of Part 1. 'System Preferences - Displays' will still crash. Don't forget to open your lid afterwards to allow your machine to keep cool!

If you go back to the state where you are using both the internal and external displays and you want to go back to the external display only mode (ie. clamshell mode) you will need to repeat Part 2. ie. The iBook must be 'awake' with only the internal display, then put to sleep, plug in the VGA adapter, then wake with the lid closed. Otherwise you will have the 'invisible' display extension phenomenon occur.
