DVD-Player OS X: Regional-Code ändern?

Hallo miteinander,

bin derzeit für ein halbes jahr in Hong Kong und habe ein ärgerliches Problem mit dem Regional-Code...

Was wenn ich den Code jetzt ändere, dass ich DVDs schaun kann, dann kann ich ihn noch einmal ändern? Und danach nicht mehr? Auch nicht wenn OS X zum Beispiel mal neu aufgesetzt wird?

Auch dann nicht (der Code wird ins Laufwerk "eingebrannt").

Lösung:
Verzichte auf die Änderung des Codes und benutze...
...entweder ein externes DVD Laufwerk (jedes physische Laufwerk hat 5x ändern frei).
...oder zur DVD-Wiedergabe den VLC Player (der sch***t ein dickes Häuflein auf den Regionalcode)

Hm das ist ärgerlich, von der Firmware lass ich jedenfalls jetzt die Finger
Habe es bereits mit dem VLC versucht, er tut einfach garnichts machen, es erscheint lediglich ein Ausrufezeichen in der Playliste, bei jeder DVD.

Offenbar eine Form von Kopierschutz (welcher???), den VLC nicht mag.
Versuche mal den Start ins DVD-Menü abzustellen und direkt in die Titel zu springen.
(Mehrfachversuch notwendig, man weiss so gut wie nie welcher Titel der interessante ist.)

ok habe ich falsch verstanden. Habe jetzt "no dvd menu" aktiviert... danach bekomme ich folgenden Fehler:

...oder zur DVD-Wiedergabe den VLC Player (der sch***t ein dickes Häuflein auf den Regionalcode)

Das scheint inzwischen nicht mehr so zu sein. Zumindest nicht unter aktuellen Versionen von VLC und OS X: Ich hatte hier auch eine DVD, die war aus den Staaten, und der DVD-Player wollte den Regioncode umstellen. VLC konnte überhaupt nichts damit anfangen. Dann habe ich den Regioncode umgestellt (ich schaue sowieso extrem selten DVDs, daher ist das nicht so schlimm gewesen), und plötzlich konnte auch VLC die DVD abspielen.

Im übrigen scheint es auch irgendwie möglich zu sein, den Regioncode nach Ablauf der „kostenlosen“ Umstellungen wieder zu ändern, jedoch weiß ich weder, wie das genau gehen soll, noch, ob das legal ist (wobei ich mir das nicht wirklich vorstellen kann, schließlich gehört das Gerät ja mir und ich kann damit machen was ich will?).

man kann das Laufwerk auch region-free patchen, aber das geht gewaltig schnell in die Hose, habe selbst die Erfahrung gemacht. Anscheinend gibt es einige "Probleme" unter Leopard, unter Tiger wohl kein Problem.

Soweit mir bekannt ist, gibt es bei einem Mac einen "doppelten" Kopierschutz:

A: Das DVD-Laufwerk (Region Code Zaehler)
B: Kopierschutz noch einmal im Betriebssystem verankert

Nur die Firmware neu flashen reicht also nicht aus...

Vielleicht hilft ja das hier weiter: Das Klick mich 1 oder klick mich 2

A funktioniert ja nur wenn das Laufewerk bereits code-free ist... das ist meines (leider) nicht.

Yup. OS X ist der Region Code egal. HDCP wird z. B. von iTunes gefordert, aber ansonsten hält sich Apple mit Kopierschutzmechanismen bei Filmen etc. vergleichsweise zurück.

Externes Laufwerk dran und gut ist. Alles andere ist wackelig.
