Using TextEdit's shortcut menus
TextEdit's shortcut menus provide options based on a selected item or where the pointer is. The content of the menu will vary depending on the selection. For example, if you select a word, the shortcut menu provides spelling options, formatting options, and Spotlight search options in addition to other shortcuts.
To view a shortcut menu, select an item (such as a word, link, table, or image) or position the pointer in a window, then hold down the Control key and press the mouse button.
You can also use keyboard shortcuts for many actions in TextEdit's regular menus. Use the key combinations shown to the right of a menu item to perform the action.
